Man Utd vs Ipswich stats and analysis: Bruno Fernandes inspires as scoreline flatters Red Devils
Manchester United sealed their first points of the 2026/27 Premier League season with a 5-2 comeback win over Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Following a miserable opening-day defeat to Hull City, the Red Devils once again found themselves behind against a newly promoted side, with Ipswich left-back Leif Davis opening the scoring on 29 minutes.
Ipswich pushed United for most of the first half, but the hosts dragged themselves level in the 40th minute, with Bruno Fernandes applying the finish after Matheus Cunha broke away courtesy of an unfortunate Marcelino Nunez slip.
The floodgates opened in the second half, with a Jacob Greaves own goal and a Fernandes penalty — conceded by Greaves — taking the game away from Ipswich. Fernandes then applied some gloss to the result, sealing his hat-trick in the 68th minute.
With Ipswich already well out of the fight, Bryan Mbeumo rounded off United’s scoring with a lobbed finish after latching on to a sensational Fernandes pass. However, Ipswich still had time to profit from a Lisandro Martinez mistake, with Enciso dispossessing the Argentine and setting up Chuba Akpom for an open-net finish.
