European international football returns tomorrow, Thursday, September 24, as the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League officially gets underway.
The league phase begins with a series of matches across Europe, including three highly anticipated fixtures featuring Portugal vs Wales, Netherlands vs Germany, and Norway vs Denmark. The opening matchday will be played from September 24 to 26, according to UEFA's official schedule.
Portugal vs Wales
Portugal, the reigning Nations League champions, begin their title defence at home against Wales in League A Group 4.
The match will also mark the competitive debut of Jorge Jesus as Portugal manager. Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in the squad for the opening Nations League fixtures, alongside a strong group of experienced players.
Wales, meanwhile, return to League A after earning promotion from League B and face an immediate test against the defending champions in Lisbon.
Netherlands vs Germany
One of the biggest matches of the opening round sees the Netherlands host Germany in League A Group 2.
The two European giants meet in a group that also includes Serbia and Greece. UEFA has identified Netherlands vs Germany as one of the standout fixtures of the 2026/27 Nations League.
Norway vs Denmark
The other League A fixture in Group 4 sees Norway take on Denmark in an all-Scandinavian clash.
Both teams will be looking for a positive start in a competitive group that also features Portugal and Wales, making the opening result particularly important.
The first matchday also includes several other fixtures, including Serbia vs Greece, Austria vs Israel and Kosovo vs Republic of Ireland, with additional games taking place across Leagues C and D.
With the opening whistle approaching, the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League is set to begin another international campaign, with the league phase running through November.
