Reports circulating on social media in recent hours have claimed that Brazilian forward Malcom, who plays for Al Jazira in the UAE, has obtained Emirati citizenship in preparation for representing the United Arab Emirates national team at the Gulf Cup. However, there has been no official confirmation of the claim so far.
The speculation emerged after Malcom joined Al Jazira in August following his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. His move to the UAE has fueled discussions about whether the Brazilian could eventually become eligible to represent the UAE national team.
Malcom was not included in the UAE squad announced for the Gulf Cup, with the national team preparing for the tournament under head coach Zlatko Dalić. The squad announcement therefore provided no official indication that Malcom had been naturalized or selected to represent the country.
The reports have consequently remained unconfirmed, with neither the UAE Football Association, Al Jazira nor Malcom publicly announcing that the player has obtained Emirati citizenship or switched his international allegiance.
For now, Malcom remains a Brazilian international, having previously represented Brazil at senior level. Any future possibility of him playing for the UAE would depend on his official nationality status and eligibility under the applicable international football regulations.
Until an official announcement is made, claims about Malcom receiving Emirati citizenship and joining the UAE national team should therefore be treated as unconfirmed reports rather than established fact.
